Equifax Inc., one of the big three credit bureaus, announced last week that they discovered a major data breach by hackers on July 29. It's being reported that over 143 million people may have been affected by having their names, birthdays, Social Security and driver's license numbers revealed. Calls for Senate investigations are gaining ground as the SEC, U.S. Treasury Secretary and members of the Senate Banking committee weigh options.

Reuters news reported "that it appeared executives [at Equifax] sold nearly $2 million worth of company stock in the time between learning of a sweeping hacker intrusion and making it public." This is a very serious turn of events and ultimately, someone or somebodies may end up going to jail.

Let's put this into perspective. Equifax, being a consumer credit reporting agency, collects and "aggregates information on over 800 million individual consumers and more than 88 million businesses worldwide." If you want to know more about what Equifax revealed, who was affected, how the hack occurred and steps you can take to protect your personal information, download this whitepaper now.
