On Tuesday, the American pharmaceutical giant Merck, along with organizations from the Ukraine, France, Russia and Spain were hit with a fast spreading Ransomware attack. It is reported by NY Times' Sheera Frenkel that the message presented on the infected machine read "Oops, your important files have been encrypted. If you see this then your files are no longer accessible because they have been encrypted. Perhaps you are busy looking to recover your files but don't waste your time." Kasperksy Labs announced that this Ransomware, which was originally believed to be similar to an earlier version, has now revised its view as it investigates and believe it is a completely new attack infection. It is being reported that the recent tools stolen from the N.S.A were used to create this new infection. The screenshot in the caption was posted on Ukrainian government official Facebook page.
A Microsoft spokesman said "the company's latest antivirus software should protect against the attack."
